Cruiserman (The Event)

September 28, 2013 - Tempe, AZ - 10am

Like us on FB...we promise NOT to take pics of dinner
although we may post our status after a few beers.

What is Cruiserman, who's it for?

This is NOT your typical triathlon… dust off the Cruiser and get  ready to roll.  Cruiserman is a unique twist on traditional triathlon…forget Aero helmets, carbon bikes and racing flats…think happy thoughts…floaties, cruisers, and flip flops.  Cruisermen & Cruiserwomen will swim (flotation devices (no boats) allowed)  thru the water (bring your own float - get creative folks), roll around town on a cruiser, and jog (aka yogg) on an obstacle laden trail.  As the sun begins to set, expect good times and beers lakeside!

JUST announced - we now have a DUATHLON option if you would prefer to stay out of the lake!  Same great price, same great event.

RACE DAY - SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 28, 2013 - 10AM

Frequently Asked Questions…that is what FAQ stands for

  • Can I drink on course?
    • Nope - our permit is for the 4 Peaks beer garden only.
    • We are not stopping you from hitting the 4 Peaks beer garden during the race though.
  • What time do we start?
    • Triathlon - first wave 10am, then a wave every 3 min thereafter
    • Duathlon - 10:15am
  • Where is the start?
    • We will be using the NORTH bank of Tempe Town Lake.  Travel north on Mill until you hit Curry, turn Right on Curry, then take a right on Lake View Drive.  If you hit College Ave, you have gone too far!
  • Where do I park?
    • Lake View Drive - Take Mill North over the lake, turn right on Curry, take you first right on Lake View Drive, you may park under the overpass, or in any of the open spots.
    • Tempe Town Lake Marina - Take Mill North, turn right on Curry, turn right on College, turn right on Gilbert, take a right into the Marina.
  • How long is the course?
Swim/Float - ~ 400 yards - billed as a swim but you are encouraged to BYOR - Bring Your Own Raft - no boats!
Bike - about 3+ miles with stuff you gotta do…as in mandatory fun-ness
Run - about 1 mile (mostly on trails), some uphill and more stuff that will make you giggle and test your nimbleness (like a cat)
  • Do I really need a cruiser?
    – No, not really, a bmx will do…or your kids bmx…but really in the spirit of the event, we want cruisers out there…borrow a friends…get one with a coupon we give you with every entry…or do what we did…found one at the dump (not kidding)…else check out Craigslist…
  • Since there are SO many Cruisers and definitions...
    • Tires - big fat ones, ie - not skinny.
    • Gears - 1, 2 or 3 gears, hell go fixed, (it will not be about who goes the fastest folks) and to make a distinction on bikes for this event would be falling in line with what we are not...this is about a "good time" as in fun.
    • Brakes - coaster, hand, fixed...just be able to stop safely in a reasonable manner.
    • Tandem...yea do it, we wish we had one.
    • Bottom line, don't bring a road bike or a mountain bike, unless it is a pugsley or some other insanely rad bike.
  • What do I win?
    – This race is really not about winning, more about getting out on your cruiser, having a good time among friends and maybe tipping back a few beers.  You'll get a tee, and grin on your face a damn good chance at walking with some schwag and possibly a new cruiser.  Don't be THAT guy that has to win and HAS to race everything...there are enough of those guys.
  • I hear there is a Duathlon option (Bike & Run), can I do that?
    • You sure can, we realize some folks don't like the water as much as we do, so we are giving you the option to just bike and ride, same great price, same great event, same beer garden.
  • Should I wear a costume?
    – Yea, ya should…it is a themed event and “Mustache Mania” is a great way to kick off the inaugural event and help us roll into Movember
